My husband, Kenneth, and I were watching the movie “Eragon”. There were two cousins in the movie that lived with their uncle. One of the cousins decided that it was time for him to leave the farm and strike out on his own to find his future. When he left it was a very sad occasion. There were no statements made like:

• Come visit us soon.
• Write us and let us know how you are doing.
• Call us when you get to your first stop and let us know what is going on.
• Friend us on Facebook and we’ll keep in touch.
• Send us an email or a Tweet.

Why were these things not said? Well, if you saw the movie you would know it was set in a time before post offices, cars, phones, or computers.

Can you imagine someone you love venturing off and knowing that you will never see them again unless they spend countless hours trying to return by horseback or on foot? Knowing that you will not hear from them unless they do come back?

In today’s society we cannot imagine the strength that it must have taken the cousin to venture out, nor the pain his family and friends must have felt when he left. Why?

Because we do have post offices, cars, buses, trains, airplanes, phones, cell phones, computers, etc.

Heck, with airplanes, we can get all the way around the world in a matter of hours. That used to take years. We can send an email in a matter of seconds to anywhere in the world. We don’t have to depend on the pony express.

In today’s society we are much more connected than we were in the past. We have the transportation in place to take us anywhere quickly. We have the communication tools in place to connect us to the whole world at anytime.

Ask yourself, Am I building my business like someone who lives in the days of “Eragon”?

If so, step into the twenty-first century.

Sure, the traditional methods are still very powerful, and to be a successful business owner, you must know and use them.

However, with the new technology of today, we can skyrocket past what we could do before. You must step out and learn the new methods so you don’t get left behind.

Can you imagine riding your horse cross country to deliver a signed document?

Sounds like an adventure, but don’t be ridiculous.

You would probably do one of three things. You would either FedEx the document overnight, fax it immediately, or email it even faster.

You can hold conference calls and online webinars. Your whole team can get together anytime without spending tons of time and money to travel. Everyone can get together after work, people from all fifty states, all at once.

Also, you are no longer limited to the traditional belly to belly style of prospecting new clients or business partners. With the advent of social media and online advertising, we have the ability to prospect people all over the globe, again without ever leaving the comfort and safety of our homes.

Many people in the past have failed at building big home based businesses because they simply did not have the time or money to travel. They did not have the ability to talk to everyone in the world. They were limited to the people who lived nearby. That is clearly not the case today.

We are so Blessed to be building a home based business in such a technologically advanced society. Just yesterday, one of our business partners sent us a message on Facebook. It was a video message. We opened it up and there she was talking to us as if she was right there in the room. It was so neat.
